Governor Strickland Signs SB 79
About 50 People were on Hand for the ceremonial signing of
Senate Bill 79, otherwise known as the "MRDD name change bill." Governor
Strickland officially signed the bill July 8, 2009 but held the
ceremonial signing in his office today, August 28, 2009. THe bill takes
effect on October 9- 90 days after the bill was signed.
OACB Executive Director Dan Ohler says, "This is an important date in
the history of Ohio. THis date ranks right up there with the formation
of County Boards of MR and the emancipation of people with developmental
disabilities. Many county boards have already taken steps to removed
mental retardation and MR from busses, buildings, official materials and
other things.
